Technically, this is called a pamphlet stitch. It is generally done in the middle of the page, but for this book it’s done on the ends.

It’s important to note that beeswax was rubbed on every piece of thread. This is so the thread is less likely to slide. Also, I used “Tapestry” needles. They are blunt and thick, without being too thick. Third, for measurement, I suggest measuring about two and a half times the height of the book.

The first step, as shown below, is to push the needle through both of the middle holes. Leave about three inches of a tail. on the side with the wheel spokes.

The next step is to go into either the top or the bottom hole. In the picture below, I went into the top hole, from the outside, back in. This is shown in the photo below.

Next, from the inside, push the needle through the opposite hole. If you went into the top hole, go into the bottom hole. (Or vice cersa.)

It should look like the picture below on the inside after the last step.

The next step is to push the needle back through the middle hole from the outside to the inside.

It will look like the picture below on the outside of the book.

The last step is the knot. At the end, you’ll have two tails through the middle hole. Make sure one of the tails is on either side of the thread that leads from the top to the bottom hole. Tie a knot over top of that thread. Then tie a second knot. Cut the extra off and it will look like it does below.

Boom! You’ve finished the book! If anyone uses this pattern to make their own book, please take a picture of it and email it to stampedbooks (at) gmail (dot) com. We’d love to see what you’re up to!
